The Hollywood Hill Association is an all-volunteer,
non-profit, community organization, dedicated to the
preservation of the rural atmosphere and lifestyle that
we believe are unique to our neighborhood.
A proposal has been made to King County Parks (KCP) to allow a private company, Gravityworks, to install a zipline concession in Gold Creek Park. This concession is projected by Gravityworks to attract up to 40,000 people per year to the park to ride up to 12 ziplines strung between the trees. In exchange for allowing this for-profit concession in Gold Creek Park King County Parks will receive a portion of the gross receipts. This money is very attractive to KCP in these times of drastically-reduced tax revenues, and KCP is trying desperately to keep all of our parks open. However, the zipline concession is proposed to have up to 12 ziplines installed, necessitating removal of several trees, rerouting and elimination of existing trails, and building a large lodge and possibly a chair lift.
Gold Creek Park is a unique park in that it is a maturing second-growth forest, very minimally-developed, providing a quiet refuge for hikers, horse riders, and local animal residents, yet close to urban development. It is the position of the Hollywood Hill Association that this zipline concession would destroy the very elements that make Gold Creek Park special, and would create "urban" development in a "rural" setting. The Hollywood Hill Association opposes this zipline concession proposal as it stands.
An information meeting is being hosted by King County Parks to provide more information about this proposal.

A reminder from the King County Sheriff's Department. Per Detective Stephen Soule: "Whenever you have a suspicious person at your house you need to call our 911 center. You can call 911 if this is a serious issue or you can call the secondary non-emergency line which is 206-296-3311. We have a directed patrol mission to document all contacts with these salespeople. I should be notified after you have done this. The county has a code to deal with solicitors. You need to post your property with No Trespassing & No Solicitors signs and then if they still come to your door we can issue them a monetary fine."
Remember, vigiliance is the best protection. Don't hesitate to contact the Sheriff's Department if you see suspicious people or activity. Also, we will be posting "No Trespassing" and "No Solicitors" signs in our yard.
