URGENT: Help Keep Our Valley Green,
but Act by December 23, 2011!

Efforts are afoot to try to convince the County to convert a number of Rural and Agricultural properties adjacent to Hollywood Hill in the Sammamish Valley to Urban designation. This action would threaten not only the farms that keep the Valley green but also the "rural character" of communities like ours across King County. The City of Woodinville has asked the County Council to move the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB), which controls land use, zoning, and the ability to annex land to a city. By adding your comments against moving the UGB to the public comments surrounding the current King County Comprehensive Plan Update you can help stave off these attacks on our Valley.

You can comment in various ways. First, you should send your comments to Paul Reitenbach at the Department of Development and Environmental Services (DDES). Paul is tasked with collecting these comments.

Additionally, we suggest you email our King County Council members directly. The three council members who represent districts directly involved with this proposal are Kathy Lambert, Jane Hague, and Bob Ferguson. However, since all council members will be involved in any decision to move the UGB in any part of King County, you can send your comments to every member. It would also be good to email King County Executive Dow Constantine to let him know you support the position he has taken in opposition to moving the Urban Growth Boundary.

We suggest that while you should make all the points that you think appropriate, it would be a good idea to make your position quite clear in the opening of your comments. Also, sending a hard copy to the King County Executive is a good idea.

Where do I send my comments?

What do I say?

While you can, and should, personalize your comments, we are offering a sample letter you can personalize and send. We also offer a list of bullet points to help you form your thoughts. Feel free to use them verbatim, but addressing one point that is important to you is as effective as covering many points.
